The American Law Society is proud to announce Judge Michael G. Bagneris has been accepted as a new member. His reputation as a Judge and attorney earned him the recognition of the Boards’ “Top Lawyer” Distinction. Presently Judge Michael G. Bagneris has retired from the Orleans Parish Civil District Court. Prior to his Judgeship Michael was an attorney and focused his practice on Tort & contract law.
Judge Bagneris earned his Juris Doctorate from Tulane Law School also clerking while in law school for the firm Fine & Waltzer. Thereafter becoming an associate after graduating from law school in 1979 and fast-tracked Notably only one year later to a partner at the firm, then renamed, Waltzer & Bagneris in 1980. The succession of his law career leads him to become Executive Counsel to Mayor Ernest "Dutch" Morial in 1986. Later He returned to his law practice at Waltzer & Bagneris in 1993. His reputation & history of excellence lead to his election, becoming Judge in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court. Mr. Bagneris served 20 years on the bench retiring in 2013.
As a judicial educator, Judge Bagneris lectures primarily on evidence, personal injury, legal experts, ethics, and professionalism. He also serves as a Bar Examiner for the Louisiana State Bar, a member of the Louisiana Judicial College, Supreme Court Ethics Committee, and Supreme Court Pro Se Litigation Committee.
Judge Bagneris is a member of several professional and civic organizations, including the American Bar Association, American Judges Association, Jazz & Heritage Festival Foundation, Judicial Council-NBA, Louis A. Martinet Society, Louisiana District Judges Association, Louisiana Judicial Council-NBA, Louisiana State Bar Association, NAACP, National Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association, New Orleans Museum of Art, and Pro Bono Project.
Judge Bagneris is married to Madlyn Bridges and they have four children and enjoy spending time with their ten grandchildren.
