The American Law Society is proud to announce Simon Raftopoulos has been accepted as a new member. Simon's history of dedication, excellence, and consistency in the legal community has earned him the recognition of the Boards' “International Top Lawyer” Distinction.
Simon Raftopoulos is a Partner and Global Head of Private Equity at Appleby, an offshore legal services provider also recognized as one of the world's leading offshore law firms also known as part of the offshore magic circle. He represents clients in the large corporate finance transactions including private equity and M&A deals regularly acting primarily for lenders.
Early on Simon felt corporate law suited him and began learning the complexity of corporate law while he earned his J.D. at the University of Johannesburg in 1999. He was first admitted in 2001 as Attorney of the Supreme Court of South Africa; following 2003 a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales; in 2004 at Law Society of Ireland; and finally in 2006 as Cayman Islands, Attorney-at-Law.
Mr. Raftopoulos' experience and reputation speak volumes in the legal finance community and among his clients. Throughout his career Simon has been listed in various Legal 500 publications, Chambers Global, Chambers Caribbean and Who's Who Legal: Corporate showcasing his accomplishments.
Simon is a regular participant and speaker at various conferences & seminars, also providing commentary to the media regarding Cayman's insurance industry. He regularly mentors younger attorneys and also received the Lee A. Freeman award in appreciation for his 10-year dedication & time offering pro bono assistance to low-income clients for the Legal Befrienders program, He is Appleby's third award recipient. Simon also volunteers time at the Family Resource Center. Mr. Raftopoulos is also fluent in Afrikaans.
American Law Society's Board of Directors scrupulously reviews attorney qualification and eligibility through a nomination and selection process. It is a privilege and honor to have Simon Raftopoulos join the American Law Society.
