Jack Duran is recognized nationwide for his practice of federal Indian law. Attorney Duran is regularly requested to appear and provide lectures and workshop discussion on various topics related to federal Indian law and policy. And he routinely serves as an instructor/lecturer for the following National and Regional Organizations: National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA), Native Learning Center (NLC), Reservation Economic Summit (RES), National Indian Education Association (NIEA), California Conference on American Indian Education (CCAIE).
Tribal attorney and Indian gaming law attorney, Jack Duran, is presently listed as a Super lawyer ‘Rising Star” for Northern California. Attorney Duran has published numerous articles on federal Indian Law and Policy and has been cited in both regional and national news media and trade publications.
Prior to founding Duran Law Office, Mr. Duran served as an associate attorney with several of the Nation’s largest federal Indian law practices, focusing primarily on tribal government support, litigation, gaming development, operations and regulation. Mr. Duran thereafter developed additional skill in the areas of tribal governance, economic development, gaming regulation, tribal construction, workers compensation and tort defense.
Mr. Duran attended the University of the Pacific-McGeorge School of Law, where he was named Most Outstanding Graduate of the Day division. After graduation, Mr. Duran served as an insurance defense attorney with a prestigious insurance defense firm, representing cities, counties, large corporations and law enforcement agencies. Mr. Duran is a former California Department of Justice, Deputy Attorney General (DAG), having served under California Attorney General, Bill Lockyer. While serving as a DAG, Mr. Duran represented the California Department of Corrections, Board of Prison Terms and Youth Authority.
Mr. Duran is a member in good standing of the California State Bar and is admitted to the Eastern and Northern District Federal District Courts and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Duran has received admission in various Tribal Court Bars, including the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska and Yurok Tribal Court.
